According to Whole Foods, “the beef in question came from Coleman Natural Beef (now owned and operated by Meyer Beef), which used Nebraska Beef for processing.” I’m shocked, shocked that Whole Foods trades with factory farms. Makes that pricey chicken from the Hastings Farmer’s Market seem even more worth it.

Omnivore's Dilemma has an interesting chapter on "big business" natural and organics--and it's the stuff Whole Earth sells. It;s clearly better than the artificial food coming out of the big, big system. apparently the acquisition of the natural biz by Oscar Meyer or whatever is typical.
Anyway, that;s what I got from the book. I agree with you on the farmer's market. For some reason, I am squeamish about getting meat there, but I should get over it.
